Uruguay vs England Preview
Probably nobody expected that these two former world champions will start from zero in their matchup in the second round of the World Cup group stage. England’s defeat against Italy maybe has not been a surprise, but Uruguay’s defeat against Costa Rica has been put it mildly, unexpected. Now, both teams are in a make-or-break position, but only one can benefit from this challenge, or both to lose.
Uruguay is the official champion of the South America and a team that has had a good tradition of competition at the world championships, unlike Costa Rica, which has been among outsiders before the start of the World Cup in Brazil. However, it looked different on the field, because Costa Rica staked enormous energy to achieve victory, in contrast to Uruguay which looked confused and disorganized. So I think that the absence of Suarez cannot be the justification, so I do not expect that his appearance in the game will solve all the problems of coach Tabarez. He is a player of the Premier League and all the players of England National Team know him very well, so they will not have problem to keep him under control. In addition, he has still not recovered completely, and it is questionable whether it is wise to introduce him in the game against a solid team like England. Tabarez must make changes in the middle row hoping that it will yield positive results.
Probable line-up of Uruguay (4-4-2): Muslera – Fucile, Lugano, Godin, Caceres – Ramirez, Arevalo Rios, Perez, Rodriguez – Cavani, Suarez
England did not look so bad against Italy in the first round, but they were not lucky enough to draw a more favorable result against the traditionally awkward opponent. England lost the match in the middle, where Uruguay was also weak, so it is expected that Hodgson makes certain changes in that part of the team, in order to compensate these weaknesses. Rooney should return to a position of a center forward, behind Sturridge, because caution is necessary against Uruguay. Much is expected of Rooney, especially in much better weather conditions than they were in Manaus.
Probable line-up of England (4-4-2): Hart – Johnson, Cahill, Jagielka, Baines – Wilshere, Henderson, Gerrard, Lallana – Rooney, Sturridge
Uruguay vs England Match Prediction
Uruguay has shown too many weaknesses in the match against Costa Rica, which the English team will know how to use it to achieve a victory to get back chances to qualify for the next stage of the competition. England -0.5.
