Italy vs Uruguay Preview
After results of the first round in the Group D probably nobody expected that Italy and Uruguay would fight against each other for the second place, especially behind Costa Rica at the first place. However, both teams have shown strength against a strong opponent, but both made a blunder against a team which was considered as weaker than them. But the circumstances are such, and Italy is in a better position, since a draw going in its favor.
Difficult task awaits Italy in the third round, but we have seen many times in the past that Italy has played best when it was the hardest. The advantage of a drawn result facilitates their position, so they are not forced to chase a victory. Cesare Prandelli will have to adapt to this situation and give up the offensive style, which did not give a result in the match against Costa Rica. Uruguay has dangerous strikers Suarez and Cavani, so the starting line-up of Italy must establish control of the game in the middle of the field.
Probable line-up of Italy (4-1-4-1): Buffon – Darmian, Paletta, Barzagli, Chiellini – De Rossi – Candreva, Verratti, Pirlo, Marchisio – Balotelli
Uruguay showed two completely different faces playing with and without Luis Suarez. However, regardless of the quality of Liverpool’s forward, a serious team, which in addition has great Edinson Cavani and experienced Diego Forlan, may not have such fluctuations due to absence of one player. Game in which all coincided in their favor has raised their self-confidence, but Italy is a serious opponent which has a solution for such situations. On the other hand, Italy has an unpredictable and dangerous Balotelli, and Uruguay’s defense has already shown weaknesses. I do not expect a change in the starting line-up of Uruguay, particularly bearing in mind that only victory brings a place in the finals of the World Cup, but the adage “never change winning team” can be a double-edged sword, so regardless of the starting line-up the team of Uruguay will also play more careful than in the match against England.
Probable line-up of Uruguay (4-3-1-2): Muslera – Caceres, Gimenez, Godin, A. Pereira – Gonzalez, Arevalo Rios, Rodriguez – Lodeiro – Suarez, Cavani
