Iran vs Nigeria Preview

Next to Australia, national team of Iran is recognized as the biggest underdog at this World Cup, but that does not mean in advance that they have wandered here and that they will lose every game. In contrast, Nigeria is at a great price, but both teams have come to Brazil after a grueling qualifications. Given the strength of the opponents in the group, this game could be the end of the championship for one of these teams.

Iran has passed the qualification for the World Cup with a lot of oscillation in the game. This is not unusual, considering that this team does not have football stars, and most of their players are from domestic championship. Only the coach is famous football name – Carlos Queiroz, the former coach of national team of Portugal, as well Real Madrid and other teams. As usual in such situations, the defense is stronger team’s side, so they have received only one goal in the last five friendly matches. Because of lower quality of players, Queiroz has often changed line-up, so it is uncertain how the team will look at the start of their first game at the World Cup.

Probable line-up of Iran (4-4-2): A. Haghighi – H. Machine, A. Alenemeh, Beitashour – Hajsafi, Nekounam, G. Hadadifar, Dejagah – Ghoochannejhad, K. Ansarifard

Nigeria is the official champion of Africa, so they have big ambitions at the World Cup, regardless of the weight of the group in which they are located. They played in the quarter final of two world championships, but it has been a long time since then, so it is questionable to build the ambition only on tradition. Qualifications were exhausting, and they have secured a place at the World Cup through the play-off matches against Ethiopia. Their poor results in friendlies are a cause for concern, as well as Elderson’s injury just before the World Cup. Like Queiroz, head coach of Iran, Keshi, has often changed composition of the team as well, so it is hard to predict who will appear in their line-up at the beginning of the game.

Probable line-up of Nigeria (4-4-2): Enyeama – Ambrose, Oboabona, Yobo, Oshaniwa – Onazi, Mikel, Moses, Musa, Odemwingie – Azeez, Shola Ameobi

Iran vs. Nigeria Match Prediction

Regardless of the difference in quality, I think that national team of Iran is too undervalued, and that Nigeria will not get the victory in this match. Therefore, Iran +0.75.
