Ghana vs United States Preview
Ghana and the United States have been announced as outsiders in their group, but I do not see why Portugal would have the advantage. Duel between these two teams has been becoming common at the World Cups, and national team of the United States is eager for revenge. Given the strength of the group in which they play, no matter what they are effective teams, the primary objective of United States and Ghana in this game will be avoiding defeat, since a defeat would mean the end of the championship.
Although they have played at only two World Cups so far, national team of Ghana are one of the best African teams which have achieved the best results in the world championships, so sporting public still looks at them as a potential surprise at the tournament. They were great in qualifying, which they ended with the maximum number of wins, as well as in the play-offs when they simply broke Egypt. With Essien, Boateng and Asamoah in the middle row, this line is base of their power, while defense is the weakest part of the team, especially due to absence of central defender Jerry Akaminko, as well as the fact that goalkeeper Kwarasey plays in the Norwegian league.
Probable line-up of Ghana (4-3-3): Kwarasey – Opare, Mensah, Boye, Inkoom – Essien, Boateng, Asamoah – J. Ayew, A. Gyan, A. Ayew
Jurgen Klinsmann has revived the US team, which led by German coach won the championship of North and Central America, with the maximum number of wins, while they finished qualifications for the World Cup with seven wins in ten matches. Their results in friendlies after qualifications have not been so great, but Klinsmann has combined the players in that period, so he decided in the end not to bring to Brazil a very experienced Landon Donovan. There have been much criticisms of the American public about it, but it seems to me that Klinsmann did the right thing, given the age of Donovan.
Probable line-up of United States (4-4-2): Howard – Johnson, Besler, Cameron, Beasley – Beckerman, Bradley, Jones – Bedoya – Dempsey, Altidore
Ghana vs. United States Match Prediction
Although I would prefer to choose a draw as the final outcome, I still suggest goals as a safer option. Total Goals – Over 2 and 2.5.
