England vs. Italy Preview

This is one of the most uncertain duels that we will see at this World Cup. The Group D is the only group at the tournament with three former world champions – England, Italy and Uruguay, so this match has an additional importance for final placement. Bearing in mind earlier duels between England and Italy, as well as their current strength, it seems that Uruguay will benefit most from the match between these two teams.

England has arrived in Brazil with great ambitions, despite having tough opponents already in the first stage of the competition. Although their expectations were huge and largely unmet in previous world championships, their confidence has increased on the eve of the World Cup due to the fact that they have been defeated only twice in the last 15 games – both times in friendly games, 0-2 against Chile and 0-1 against Germany. In addition, with 31 goals scored throughout qualifications they were one of the most efficient team. Hodgson cannot count on injured wingers Oxlade-Chamberlain and Welbeck, as well as central defender Jones, which can be a problem for the English team given that Walcott, Rodriguez and Walker have stayed at home, also due to injury.

Probable line-up of England (4-4-2): Hart – Johnson, Cahill, Jagielka, Baines – Wilshere, Henderson, Gerrard, Lallana – Rooney, Sturridge

The Italian team is perhaps the least favored national team among fans outside Italy, because of their destructive play. However, looking at it from another point of view, Italy is master of the tournament. Their basic concept of the game is to save their own goal, do not let the opponent many chances and wait for opportunity for a goal that would be enough to win. However, coach Cesare Prandelli has changed football philosophy of the Italian national team, and now they play modern football, what makes this team more dangerous. Experienced Pirlo and De Rossi in the middle, with Balotelli in attack, pose a threat to any team. Prandelli cannot count on Motolivo for this game due to injury, but more serious problem could be an ankle injury of Buffon, which he got a yesterday’s practice.

Probable line-up of Italy (4-3-3): Buffon (Sirigu) – Abate, Bonucci, Chiellini, de Sciglio – Pirlo, De Rossi, Marchisio – Candreva, Balotelli, Cerci

England vs. Italy Match Prediction

These are actually teams of the same quality and strength so it is difficult to say which one has more chances to win. Although a draw is the most favorable outcome for their rivals in the group, it will most likely be the final outcome of this game. Draw.
