Brazil vs. Croatia Preview

Finally, we welcome the beginning of the World Championships in Brazil. After a series of problems with the construction of stadiums and street riots of disgruntled citizens because of the money spent on a football fun in a country where poverty prevails, tomorrow’s performance of domestic selection may temporarily soothe passions. Brazil is primarily a country where football is every boy’s dream to solve existence one day through a football career, like famous Pele, Vava, Rivaldo, Ronaldo, Ronaldinho and other famous names of Brazilian football. Led by rising star Neymar, Brazilians are hoping for the new, sixth world title, and the first game should confirm such ambitions.

Many expect a spectacular performance of Brazil, forgetting that coach Scolari prefer a good outcome in relation to the beauty of a game. This is understandable, because Brazil has paid the price because of so-called “dying in beauty” on the pitch many times. Brazilian team’s formation, 4-2-3-1, talks about cautious line-up of players on the pitch, in order to prevent fast counterattacks by defensive-oriented opponents. Brazil has not chosen accidentally the Serbian national team for the last test before the start of the championship, because that first opponent in the tournament, Croatia belongs to the same school of football. This school is not much different from Brazilian style, and Croatia is a highly ranked national team in the FIFA rankings, which is another reason for caution. This will be a similar game as against Serbia, with the difference that the Brazilians would not allow so many promising chances to opponent. Also, we should expect the same starting line-up.

Probable line-up of Brazil (4-2-3-1): Julio Cesar – Dani Alves, David Luiz, Thiago Silva, Marcelo – Paulinho, Luiz Gustavo – Hulk, Oscar, Neymar – Fred

Croatia missed the previous world championship, played in South Africa four years ago, what happened the first time since the creation of the state. They are proud of their third place at the 1998 World Cup, but it is difficult to expect a repeat of such a success in this championship, not only because of strong opponents in the Group A, but also because they will play without very important player Mario Mandzukic. They had successful preparatory matches against Mali and Australia, achieving a minimal victory, corroborating the expectation that the coach Kovac will opt for a defensive tactics against Brazil.

Probable line-up of Croatia (4-2-3-1): Pletikosa – Srna, Corluka, Lovren, Vida –Vukojevic, Modric – Rakitic, Kovacic, Perisic – Olic
